Program for schools and libraries has provided steady digital connections to close the homework gap.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently announced its $21 million commitment to fund the Emergency Connectivity Fund Program, which gives students digital service in communities nationwide. Originally launched in 2021, the program plans to support approximately 50 more schools, five libraries, and three consortia. This will benefit about 55,000 students across the nation—including in California, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Puerto Rico.
“This program provides critical digital tools to connect students with their teachers and online homework,” said FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel. “This latest round of funding continues our progress in working to close the Homework Gap.”
